Recruiter's AI Digest #1
Resources and perspectives to keep you ahead of the curve as AI deepens its impact in Recruiting.
AI is having it’s time, and it’s hard to stay on top of what this really means as a Recruiter or Recruiting Leader. Recruiter’s AI Digest will provide you with a concise view of the most important resources, insights, and tools to help you understand, harness, and apply the power of Artificial Intelligence to your work.
Opening note: Welcome to the future. It’ll be what we make it.
Welcome to the first edition of Recruiter’s AI Digest. Suffice to say, AI is going to touch every corner of business and society. Meaning we’re all going to have to learn how to use our new superpowers to create impact.
We’re starting this newsletter because it’s important recruiters see this as a moment of opportunity to shape the future of hiring, not a threat to delay and avoid. Recruiting will stay vital, and the winners in recruitment will be the ones that realize quickest that it’s up to them to work out how to harness this technology to their advantage.
Everything that you call life was made up by people no smarter than you. And you can change it. You can influence it.

📺 Brainfood Live: Recruiter use cases for ChatGPT pt.1
Hung Lee’s weekly Brainfood Live was more energetic, breathless, and packed-full of innovation than ever as he (and co-host Alla Pavlova) goes on a whirlwind tour of ways various recruiters are using ChatGPT, and how Recruiting Tech companies are integrating the underlying technology in their products (including Metaview).
Well worth a watch as various practitioners “think out loud” about what the latest developments at OpenAI might mean for recruitment.
📚 How generative AI will supercharge productivity (Fast Company)
The folks at NFX (a VC firm that have previously invested in companies like DoorDash, Lyft, and Marqeta) shared their perspective on how AI will empower us in our endeavours, rather than just replace. A thesis we very much agree with.
A short read. Pay particular attention to the section titled “curation over creation”. This represents a common view: that our job’s will become more about editing and decision making, and the hard graft of creation will increasingly be move to machines. AIs ability to massively reduce the activation energy required to get started on something will make waves.
📚 How ChatGPT is redefining human expertise (Forbes)
Psychologist and author, Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, shared his take on the impact of ChatGPT via Forbes. Importantly, he also framed what he believes humans will increasingly focus on in the workplace in the light of this new technology:
Knowing what questions to ask.
Knowing more than the “crowds” about a narrow topic so that your answers are better than “the average answer”, which — in it’s current form — ChatGPT biases towards.
Knowing how to go from insight to action.
The corollary of this is to think about how to get excellent at these things, as they are likely here to stay and will increase in value to businesses.
A relatively light article, so Tomas’s book on the topic will be one to look out for (I am a big fan of a previous book of his, The Talent Delusion).
📺 Jim Stroud’s Recruiting w/ ChatGPT
I saw a ton of positive feedback on Jim’s videos contianing hyper-practical tips for making use of ChatGPT as a recruiter, here and here.
Jim demonstrates how to use ChatGPT for job description summarization, suitability analysis of a candidate’s resume by comparing it to the JD, and automatically generating boolean search strings in order to find candidates based on the JD.
It’s compelling stuff. Super approachable and practical.
