This week’s digest
It’s been a crazy week in the world of AI and technology.
First, we have OpenAI gaining a pair of eyes, ears and a voicebox 👀 👂 🗣. ChatGPT can also once again access the internet, so can get you up to date information (it was previously limited to Sep 2021. And also rumours they’re about to raise a lot more money. 💰💰
ChatGPT can now see, hear, and speak: OpenAI’s statement
This twitter thread shows some pretty amazing use cases. Probably the coolest thing I’ve seen from AI in a while.

How to keep recruitment human with AI
(LevelUp Ventures x Metaview)
In this round table discussion, recruiting leaders from LevelUp, Abstraction and Teraflow discuss how to keep recruitment human in these AI times.
Some quick tips I took from this one:
Nix’s tech stack:
ChatGPT (checking differences between roles)
Ashby (CRM / ATS)
Metaview (AI note taker for recruiters)
Chris’ tech stack:
ChatGPT
Close to integrating Ashby
Metaview
Siadhal’s stack:
Loom - summarize videos you might want to send to candidate
Perplexity.ai - good for answering questions and including sources
Outsource what AI is good at, and keep doing what human are good at
Nix mentioned utilizing AI to automate mundane and repetitive tasks, like scanning CVs as a first layer, but picking up on nuances from candidates, noticing gaps and trying to figure out the candidate’s story is an important role humans will still play in the process. Using intuition to know what you should assess about candidates.
Robot Proof Recruiter is a book Chris read (sounds interesting and very relevant in these times).
The human element will be the differentiator
What won’t change is that the human element of the hiring process will be the differentiator. If all companies end up having the same tech stack the main differentiator will still be the human that is in the process.
How candidates are using ChatGPT
(Hung Lee, Arctic Shores)
Hung Lee shared some insights from research carried out by Arctic Shores recently on how candidates (2k+) are using AI in the hiring process.
1️⃣ Rising Adoption 📈:
A remarkable surge from 50% to 72% was noted in job applicants utilizing Generative AI for job applications since May 2023, indicating a paradigm shift in online recruitment components like cover letters, resumes, and application forms.
2️⃣ ChatGPT's Dominance 🥇:
With 57% usage among job seekers, ChatGPT emerges as the most favored GAI application for job search, primarily aiding in text composition, leaving others like Google Bard and Adobe Firefly trailing significantly.
3️⃣ Ethical Acceptance 🤝:
A whopping 87% of respondents see no ethical dilemma in leveraging AI for job search. Any employer prohibition against ChatGPT usage could deter 40% of potential candidates, a critical insight for devising AI Detection/Deterrence strategies.
4️⃣ AI-Enhanced Performance 🚀:
AI-enabled candidates exhibit over double performance improvement in verbal/numerical reasoning tests. The enhanced performance extends to Situational Judgement Tests (SJT) and personality assessments, where AI outputs desirable qualities, albeit detached from the candidate's actual personal traits.
