Without intervention, generative AI jobs will continue to cluster in the same big tech hubs
(Brookings)
🤖 New Brookings article explores the geography of AI development (in the US).
Over 60% of generative AI jobs clustered in just 10 cities so far. 🏙️
AI activity concentrating in major coastal tech hubs like past innovations. 📈
Technical factors could further centralize AI in big metro areas. 💰
But targeted investments could help spread AI work to more regions. 💡
The article argues AI activity is centralizing in major tech hubs like past disruptive technologies. But efforts around research, training, and policy could distribute opportunities more broadly.

Reimagining Hiring and Learning with the Power of AI (LinkedIn)
Hari Srinivasan from LinkedIn announced new AI tools to help recruiters and employees build skills faster. 💡
They launched Recruiter 2024 with AI search to find qualified candidates faster. 👩💻
Recruiter 2024 suggests location, skills, and work preferences to expand searches. 🗺️
They partnered with CRMs like Jobvite for recruiter workflow integration. ⚙️
LinkedIn Learning launched AI coaching to give personalized advice for skills training. 🤖
The AI chatbot recommends content based on your goals and experience. 📚
It can answer leadership and management questions with tailored feedback. 💬
The tools will roll out to all customers this year to boost productivity. 🚀

Vulnerability of assessment types vs. ChatGPT
(Arctic Shores via Hung Lee)
I saw Hung post this on X, which was an interesting visual of how vulnerable different interview assessment types are to ChatGPT.
It seems like task based assessments could be the most efficient way to truly test a candidate’s skills (without the aid of ChatGPT).
There is an argument to be made that it’s actually okay for people to use ChatGPT in interviews. For example, in present-day interviews many companies allow the use of Google search (e.g. using Stack Overflow to help in a coding screen interview.) If people can use ChatGPT on the job, maybe they should be allowed to use it as part of the interview process too?
Sam Altman remains optimistic about AI’s impact on the job market
(Sam Altman)
Here's (link) an interesting exchange on the power of AI between the founder of Flexport and Sam Altman from OpenAI:
The Flexport founder shared how their new GPT-4 based tool has drastically cut down task times in freight coordination, hinting at a ripple effect on the cost of international shipping.
Sam Altman chimed in, emphasizing that AI shines in automating tasks rather than entire jobs, enhancing what individuals can accomplish.
He also candidly touched on the possibility of AI taking over certain jobs in the future, but remained optimistic about the emergence of new and better job opportunities.
LinkedIn learning course on Generative AI and the Future of Talent Acquisition
(Glen Cathey)
Glen Cathey launched a LinkedIn Learning course on "Generative AI and the Future of Talent Acquisition." I haven’t had the chance to check it all out yet, but from my short viewing and Glen’s experience, I know it will be awesome!
The course covers forms of AI, use cases, and benefits for recruiters, candidates, and hiring managers. 💡
It includes 10 questions to ask AI vendors and the role of humans with AI recruiting. 🤖
The course is featured in the "Work changes today" learning path, free through December 2023. 🔓
