Gemini - Google’s Answer to ChatGPT
(Google)
Last week Google announced Gemini, it’s latest AI model which they claim beats ChatGPT on 30/32 standard tests used to measure the performance of LLMs.
A couple of things worth noting - Gemini is not open to the public, so some people are saying they will believe it when they see it. Also these tests were ran vs. ChatGPT’s 3.5 model, so ChatGPT are certainly already improved on that model behind the scenes.
It is a very cool demo worth checking out in the video - although there have been some claims the demo is fake too. 😅
Anthropic’s latest tactic to stop racist AI: Asking it ‘really really really really’ nicely
(TechCrunch)
Here’s a quick article from TechCrunch summarizing a recent study Anthropic ran on bias in it’s LLMs.
Bias Identification: The study revealed Claude 2.0, an AI model, exhibited biases, particularly against Black, Native American, and nonbinary individuals in scenarios like job and loan applications.
Intervention Tactics: Researchers effectively reduced biases by appending instructions to the AI, guiding it to ignore race, gender, and other protected characteristics in decision-making.
Significant Impact: This approach proved highly effective, drastically lowering discrimination levels in the AI's responses.
Implications for Recruiters: The findings underscore the importance of vigilant AI usage in recruitment and other high-stakes areas, ensuring fairness and compliance with anti-discrimination laws.
Broader Takeaway: The study highlights the potential for mitigating AI biases, but also reinforces the necessity of human oversight and ethical considerations in AI deployment.

EU reaches provisional agreement on AI Act, paving way for landmark law
(The Verge)
The EU has reached a provisional agreement on the AI Act. Although it is not expected to come into force until 2025, worth being aware. It seems that tools involved in AI decision-making (e.g. candidate resume screening) will be under most scrutiny.
Landmark Step 🌍: EU's provisional agreement on the AI Act sets a global precedent for AI regulation.
High-Impact AI Rules ⚖️: Includes risk assessments and transparency in systems like GPAI.
User Empowerment 👥: Rights for AI decisions' challenges and explanations.
Hefty Fines for Non-compliance 💰: Penalties up to 35 million euros or 7% of global revenue.
Law Enforcement Provisions 🚓: Specific exemptions for biometric systems in law enforcement.
Timeline 📅: Law expected to be in effect from 2025, pending further discussions.

Two Titans on the Future of AI (with Reid Hoffman & Vinod Khosla)
(Cerebral Valley)
This podcast features back-to-back interviews with prominent venture capitalists Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn co-founder) and Vinod Khosla (Khosla Ventures founder) at the Cerebral Valley AI Summit.
A few interesting take aways:
Both Hoffman and Khosla emphasized the importance of the US continuing to attract global AI talent through favorable immigration policies. Khosla specifically said the US should "open up immigration to anybody with talent in this area" to win the "talent war" with China. This suggests demand for skilled AI talent will continue rising.
Khosla predicted that in 10 years there will be 1 billion people globally writing code using natural language interfaces. This highlights a major future shift in how programming skills are leveraged. Recruiters should keep this long-term vision in mind.
Khosla also forecasted 1 million bipedal robots within 10 years. While not directly about talent, this prediction underscores rapid advancement in AI and robotics that will impact the job market. Recruiters should anticipate ongoing demand growth for roles at the leading edge of these fields.
