AI-generated profile pics on LinkedIn, yay or nay?
(Robin Choy)
I saw an interesting debate arise on LinkedIn this week, from a post by Robin Choy.
This stirred a debate in the comments section, with a lot of it centred upon whether the photos were very obviously fake or not, with those close to real, but not fully real creeping people out, falling within the ‘Uncanny Valley’. (“eerie sensation” one feels when they encounter a robot with human-like characteristics)
Many came to defend the usage of AI photos on LinkedIn, as AI produced headshots could make ‘professional photos’ accessible to everyone, even if you don’t have the time, money or ability to go and get one taken.

Implementing Generative AI Tools
(SHRM Labs)
Discover how to leverage Generative AI for HR success, as shared by Tim Whitley, HR tech expert at Oklahoma State University.
Key Themes for Recruiters:
Culture Embracement: Cultivate a tech-forward culture. For example, integrate GenAI tools within existing platforms for seamless daily use. 🌐
Strategic Communication: Start with a robust communication plan. Use GenAI for organizing employee feedback and tailor training to fit various learning styles. 🗣️
Iterative Implementation: Roll out GenAI tools in phases. Begin with pilot programs to gauge effectiveness and adjust accordingly. 🔄
Actionable Takeaways:
Digital Mindset: Reflect on how your team can foster a digital-first approach, essential for GenAI integration. 🧐
Ongoing Dialogue: Keep communication channels open beyond deployment for continuous support and training. 💬
Pilot & Scale: Test GenAI in small-scale scenarios, like drafting job descriptions or screening resumes, before a full-scale launch. 🎯

What Can be Done in 59 Seconds: An Opportunity (and a Crisis)
(Ethan Mollick)
An experiment that went viral less than a year ago showed AI's impressive ability to execute a full marketing campaign in under 30 minutes. Since then, the case for AI as a significant boost to productivity has strengthened, though its adoption has been uneven. This may be due to the learning curve, discomfort with the technology, or organizational resistance.
A challenge was set to outdo the previous experiment, not in 30 minutes but 59 seconds, performing five diverse tasks simultaneously. The outcome? Five high-quality drafts, including a trendy kitchen design, a detailed syllabus, a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation, a market research summary, and a solid product launch strategy—all in under a minute.
The Implications:
The Crisis: As AI begins to replicate the output traditionally used to measure human productivity and intelligence, there's a potential crisis of meaning for many workers.
The Opportunity: AI offers the freedom to delegate less desired tasks and explore new capabilities, potentially leading to greater job satisfaction and personal growth.
Leadership's Role: The way AI is utilized will dictate whether its impact is positive or negative. Leaders must be proactive in harnessing AI's potential without losing the essence of meaningful human work.
