Talent Trends Report | Candidate Sourcing
(Ashby)
Ashby shared a report on Sourcing trends, by analyzing 500k email sequences sent through Ashby from 2022-2024.
A feature enabling recruiters to add personalization to the emails using AI tokens, led to 46% higher response rates! Super interesting to see how automated outreach can, to the end user be perceived as more personal, with the help of some AI.
“The one thing that we’ve gotten a ton of positive feedback from candidates is the AI outreach feature Ashby has in these sequences. I get candidates all the time — in emails and on calls — say things like ‘I’ve never gotten such a personalized recruiter outreach message before.”
Kiera Cox, Technical Recruiting at Liveflow
Eventually, I can imagine all sourcing outreach using such AI personalization and this becomes the norm. Until then, those who use such tools will have the upper hand vs. those who don’t.

VC Backed AI Employee Startups are a Trend
(@Chiefaioffice)
With fundraising levels a lot lower in the past couple years vs. historically, it’s always interesting to see where VC money is being invested. One big investment trend currently, is AI Employees. Some popular examples that have received funding recently include Sierra AI (Customer Support) and Devin (Software Engineer) built by Cognition.
We are firmly of the belief that AI will replace tasks, vs. replacing full roles, and AI will allow people to focus on higher order tasks, involving critical thinking, strategy and emotional intelligence. But hiring an AI employee has a nice ring to it.

AI - if you don’t want it to work, it won’t
(Ethan Mollick)
This post poses more questions for me than answers, but interesting to noodle on.
If you have someone so sceptical of AI that they don’t want it to work, then they can probably make it not work. If I use ChatGPT with the goal in mind to make it give me bias results, I can almost certainly do that.
Some will see this as a massive risk (don’t want it to work so it wont), whilst others will see it as a massive opportunity (it will work as long as you want it to work, and you shouldn’t try to make it not work).
This post from Metaview CEO Siadhal actually links up with this point quite nicely. If you are playing with AI with the intention of making it not work (getting burnt), then you will get burnt. But there’s so much benefits to AI (like warmth from a fire!), once you use it with good intentions.
