AI Recruiter
(Kevin Wheeler)
Kevin Wheeler prompts a rethink in recruitment: Despite decades of tools, from ATS to Internet searches, breakthroughs in productivity and satisfaction remain elusive. The missing piece? Understanding the human elements—motivations, and intangibles that make or break a hire.
Enter AI. Far from just another tool, AI could revolutionize recruitment by analyzing vast data, revealing insights into candidate and team dynamics, and personalizing matches at scale.
For recruiters, this means a shift is coming. The focus will shift from manual sourcing to strategic talent development and mastering AI and analytics.
Putting AI to Work
(Sam Schlimper, Randstad)
In a thought-provoking article from the Spring 2024 issue of People and Strategy, Sam Schlimper of Randstad lays out a blueprint for integrating AI in the workplace, emphasizing the human element.
Centaur Workforce Unveiled: The concept is fascinating—AI does not stand alone but works in tandem with human skills to create a 'Centaur Workforce.' It's a balanced approach where AI manages data and repetitive tasks, freeing humans to focus on strategic decision-making and empathetic interactions, fostering a collaborative dynamic crucial for innovation.
Highlighting Human Potential: Schlimper argues for a work environment that accentuates inherent human abilities like creativity and emotional intelligence. In this AI-augmented landscape, the human role is elevated to one that leverages these irreplaceable skills, ensuring that AI integration does not diminish but rather enhances human work.
Real-World Application—Yale New Haven Hospital: In practice, AI's role as a decision-support tool is illustrated by Yale New Haven Hospital's enhanced triage system. It's a prime example of AI and humans working synergistically, with AI providing data-driven insights and nurses applying their critical thinking to deliver patient care.

The Uneven Impact of Generative AI on Entrepreneurial Performance
(Berkley Haas, Harvard Business School)
Berkley Haas and HBS researchers teamed up to conduct this interesting study on AI as an advisor to business, vs. AI actually doing the work.
The outcome: AI's impact isn't one-size-fits-all. The study on Kenyan entrepreneurs reveals generative AI, like GPT-4, can be a mixed blessing. High performers saw a revenue boost with AI mentorship, while low performers struggled, hinting at AI's uneven effects based on the complexity of business challenges faced.
This controlled study found top small business entrepreneurs got a stunning 15% boost in profits when given an AI mentor, but low performers struggled with mentorship & did worse.
