How can I get my boss to buy in to an AI tool?
(Siadhal Magos)
TLDR: Attach investment to an existing business goal, or create a culture of experimentation
Metaview co-founder and CEO Siadhal Magos, explains in this video clip how to get your boss’s (or colleagues’) buy-in for investing in AI. There are two main ways Siadhal suggest getting this buy-in:
Attach the investment to an existing business goal. Understand what you need to achieve and how this tool will help you to get there
Convince your boss about the value of ‘building intuition around AI’
“Chance favors the prepared mind.”
There are many unknowns right now about what AI can and will be able to do. To remain ahead of the game, you need to prepare your mind for how AI can impact and augment workflows. The only way of doing this is by experimenting and playing with AI. It is hard to build up this intuition by reviewing website, or seeing a demo.
AI adoption may reduce productivity in the short term, before leading to significant gains
(Nico Orie)
TLDR: AI adoption may negatively impact productivity in the short term as business adapt their processes, before adding to employee productivity
“Historically, when general-purpose technologies become available, they don’t immediately translate into productivity growth. Often there’s a period where productivity declines, where there’s a lull. The reason there’s this lull is that companies need to reinvent organizations and develop new business processes.”
Productivity J-Curve: AI will follow a pattern of initial productivity decline before growth, similar to past technologies.
Employee Challenges:
47% of employees using AI are unsure how to achieve productivity gains.
77% report AI has decreased productivity and increased workloads.
Organizational Adaptation:
Companies often fail to utilize AI fully by integrating it into outdated models.
Effective AI integration requires balancing traditional and nontraditional work approaches.
Leadership Expectations:
96% of C-suite leaders expect AI to boost overall productivity.
Historical patterns suggest productivity gains will come after significant adaptation.
